HTML is frustrating. Diving in and experimenting with the language is the fastest way to learn in.
Once students had mastered a few basics, heading, paragraphs and image tags, I gave them this assignment. Students are given a printed copy of the site’s HTML. They are instructed to change all h tags to h6, to move the image to the bottom of the page and make changes to the p tags.
Being able to see the code and what it does live helps to engage students. Adding in a game as an incentive, students not only learned a bit more about HTML, they enjoyed doing it.
